MEET JOHN BROOKS

11th Hour Books was created by John Brooks who worked in the field of wildlife conservation for over 30 years. His travels have taken him around the world, obtaining first hand knowledge of the existing state of wildlife affairs and how conservation efforts can improve the quality of life for all.

John wrote his 1st conservation book for children, Animals Don’t Talk, in 1989 after investigating the wanton destruction of a Canada nest bearing eggs. “The children involved”, John recalls, “were not remorseful for their actions. When I took the kids to their parents, I quickly learned why the children did not respect nature or wildlife. I left that house feeling very frustrated, knowing that those kids were not receiving any education concerning respect of others or respect towards wildlife. I remember thinking to myself that someone should do something, like write a book, so the kids would at least have the opportunity to learn from sources other than their parents. Even though I didn’t believe I was qualified to write books for children, I decided to give it a shot. I took that book into the schools of Chicago and was surprised at how positive the kids responded to the story. I think as adults, we tend not to give kids the credit they deserve for being intelligent beings.”

John regularly lectures to students on the value of conservation and the wise uses of our natural resources to school groups, governments, and conservation organizations. John’s other interests include film making and musical composition and is currently working on a project to restore wild populations of tigers in Nepal. John Brooks also was a Congressional Candidate for District 51 of California in 2012.
